As CUOC, Williams will be in charge of the insurer’s global underwriting business in the corporate lines segment spanning property, liability, financial lines, and alternative risk transfer. His remit will include Allianz Group’s cyber centre of competence and risk consulting, as well.
Also, Williams will lead key internal underwriting functions such as accumulation & catastrophe risk management and portfolio performance management. AGCS chief underwriting officer specialty Renate Strasser, meanwhile, will take on the board oversight of the energy & construction business line and of the global pricing team.
A New Zealand national, Williams came onboard AGCS in 2016 as NZ country manager. He relocated to Munich in 2018 to assume the position of global head of commercial for financial lines, before moving to his current post the following year.
At AIG, where Williams previously spent 14 years, he held increasingly senior financial lines regional leadership roles in Auckland, Johannesburg, Paris, and London.
Referring to Buckle, who is leaving Allianz for personal reasons, AGCS chief executive Joachim Mueller stated: “I would like to thank Tony for his high personal commitment and contribution to the successful realignment of our corporate lines portfolio. On behalf of the AGCS board of management, I wish him all the best for his future, professionally and personally.
“At the same time, I welcome Shanil as a new member to the AGCS board of management, as we focus increasingly on profitable growth and market opportunities. As one of our best internal talents in underwriting and a highly respected team leader of a large global underwriting unit, he is ready to make the next step in his career and assume wider responsibility for AGCS’s underwriting performance and sustained business success.”
A key business unit of Allianz Group, AGCS provides risk consultancy, property & casualty insurance solutions, and alternative risk transfer for commercial, corporate, and specialty risks across 10 dedicated lines of business.
