Specialist insurer Beazley has announced the appointment of Cal Spessard to head the team responsible for handling claims arising from the company’s fast-growing environmental liability business. She will be based in New York.
Spessard succeeds Larry Griffin, who has been promoted to head the claims team responsible for Beazley’s professions business, which includes environmental liability and professional liability for architects and engineers and for lawyers.
Prior to joining Beazley, Spessard served as director of claims and litigation services for WCD Group, an environmental risk management specialist. He has also held a number of senior claims roles at AIG.
“The quality of our claims service is a big reason clients and their brokers choose Beazley for environmental liability protection,” said Jayne Cunningham, Beazley’s environmental focus group leader. “Cal’s deep knowledge of pollution legal liability insurance products and practical experience resolving complex construction and environmental site-remediation issues will help us deliver even better support for our insureds.”
Beazley has seen major growth in environmental liability in recent years. The space accounted for more than $100 million in premiums last year, the company said.
