A Georgia county commissioner and his wife have been charged with multiple counts of insurance fraud and violating the state’s insurance code.
Bob Coleman, a Glynn County commissioner and insurance agent, and his wife, Sherry Coleman, have been charged with 15 felony counts of violating the Georgia Insurance Code, according to a report by The Brunswick News.
“The Colemans have been charged with defrauding customers who paid the pair for workers’ compensation insurance as well as other lines of insurance,” the state workers’ compensation board said in a news release. “The indictment handed down includes 10 separate victims. The case is still under active investigation and there is the possibility of additional victims and charges.”
Bob Coleman is serving his third term on the Glynn County Commission, according to The Brunswick News. He is also the former owner of Coleman Insurance Agency, which he sold to Family First Insurance in August.
Family First owner Jeff Guest said he was unaware of the investigation into the Colemans when he purchased the agency.
“Because they did not disclose this to me, when I was made aware of this, I severed my relationship personally and professionally with them,” Guest told The Brunswick News. Guest said he wasn’t made aware of the investigation until October – but that he now believes the Colemans knew they were being investigated when they sold him the agency.
“Because it was not disclosed to me, I am in the middle of this mess,” Guest said.
