Major independent insurance broker Lockton announced Monday that that it has named Peter Schmitz Senior Vice President and Aviation Practice Leader.

The broker is also looking into expanding its services to firms related to the aviation industry, particularly corporate aircraft, aircraft management and charter, aircraft parts and component manufacturers, airport operations, aircraft repair and overhaul, as well as passenger and cargo airlines.

Schmitz has 31 years of aviation insurance industry experience, having advised clients, developing insurance programs, and creating expert teams. As Lockton’s new Aviation Practice Leader, Schmitz will build on the broker’s existing aviation teams in both the U.S. and London.

Previously, Schmitz was associated with Aon, having served the company as the CEO of Aon’s Global Aviation Specialty business. He also once served Marsh's US Aviation Specialty operations in a leadership capacity.
