New Jersey-based tech start-up Bridger has purchased a managing general agency in California, it was announced.

Bridger purchased SCJ Insurance Services, a Pleasanton-based MGA that provides non-standard auto insurance through more than 2,000 agent locations across California.

The tech firm said it was in search of an established MGA “with a successful agent network” to begin development and launch of technology-based insurance products.

“Bridger will deliver technology-driven personal insurance products to our independent agent partners that will enable them to offer a more efficient quote, bind and claims experience,” said Bridger CEP Kimo Winterbottom. “In two years, we hope to be offering personal and commercial, as well as homeowners’ products, through our proprietary Bridger transactional platform, and taking profitable market share by offering a user experience to the agent and consumer that is second to none.”

In addition to California, SCJ holds license in Texas and Arizona, fuelling Bridger’s plans to expand rapidly beyond the Golden State. Winterbottom said the aims to grow Bridger’s premium to between $25 million and $30 million by summer of 2018.
