RT Specialty has named Seth Johnson to serve as the new president of RT Binding Authority.

The appointment, effective January 01, 2021, will see Johnson succeed Scott H. Smith – who announced his intent to retire by the end of this year.

Johnson is currently the president of RT Specialty – Atlantic. He joined the company as part of RT Specialty’s acquisition of Atlantic Specialty Lines, where he served as chief operating officer.

“Since joining RT over a year ago, Seth has shown great leadership, strong underwriting skills and a profound understanding of the binding authority business,” said RT Specialty chairman and CEO Tim Turner. “Seth has built exceptional, high performing, client-centric teams and is the perfect choice to lead RT Binding into the future.”

“I am extremely honored and humbled to be asked to lead RT Binding. RT is comprised of the best, most intelligent, motivated insurance professionals in the business,” commented Johnson on his appointment.

“Seth is the best candidate and an outstanding choice to take RT Binding into the future. Seth’s entire career has been in the MGA business and his proven leadership skills have prepared Seth to lead the 45+ RT Binding offices across the country and develop his strategic vision,” said RT Binding Authority outgoing president Scott H. Smith.

RT Specialty is the wholesale brokerage subsidiary of Ryan Specialty Group (RSG). This week, RSG also announced that it had named Nick Cortezi as the new chairman and CEO of RSG Underwriting Managers, RSG’s managing general underwriting division.
