Willis Re, the reinsurance division of Willis Towers Watson, has appointed Charles Rumball as the head of specialty in North America.
In his new role, Rumball will report to both Willis Re Specialty chief operating officer Donald Harrell and Willis Re North America executive vice-chairman and CEO Jeffrey Livingston.
“Clients increasingly make decisions on a local basis, so it is important to have an integrated specialty business within their own region. Because of that, Willis Re is investing to build out our North American specialty business structure with a broad focus, covering inland marine, ocean marine, aviation, energy and retro. That makes Charlie, who has worked successfully in all the major specialty lines, the ideal person for the job,” commented Harrell.
“Charlie will be a real asset for us in New York, and for our North American clients. He brings a wealth of experience and talent to our organization and I look forward to working with him and his associates to ensure our clients get the insight and advice they have come to expect from Willis Re,” added Livingston.
“I am really pleased to be returning to broking and to New York, where I can work hands-on with clients to help them achieve their diverse business goals,” said Rumball regarding his appointment.
Rumball remarked that as the market for specialty reinsurance changes and clients face new challenges, he is excited to bring Willis Re’s and the global reinsurance market’s resources over to clients “to achieve the best possible outcomes.”
Rumball most recently served as executive vice-president of Willis Re’s specialty reinsurance division in Hamilton, Bermuda. He has worked as a lead underwriter in a range of specialty classes and has experience in portfolio and divisional P&L management, evaluating strategic opportunities, and negotiating group hedging strategies. Before joining Willis Re, Rumball was head of specialty reinsurance at Ariel Re, which he joined in 2006. Prior to that, he served as a reinsurance broker based in London and New York with Guy Carpenter.
