AGCS has announced that Tracy Ryan has been tapped to join its board of management as chief regions and markets officer for North America. Ryan will succeed William (Bill) Scaldaferri, who is leaving the company after 23 years, 11 were in his current position.

Ryan will assume her new position at the company’s New York office immediately, taking on Scaldaferri’s regional role as president and CEO of Allianz Global Risks US Insurance Company, AGCS’s primary North American carrier. She is slated to join the AGCS SE Board on April 1, subject to the usual regulatory approvals.

Ryan was previously at Liberty Mutual Insurance Group where she was a board member and served as president of global risk solutions North America from 2020. She has spent over 30 years within the industry in various technical and leadership roles.

AGCS CEO, Joachim Mueller, said that he is happy to “welcome Tracy as Bill’s successor. She brings a unique combination of leadership skills and deep expertise in our sector, from technical underwriting through to client and broker delivery in both North America and globally.”

“I am sure she will build on the great foundations that Bill and his team have created in this region which is such a major part of AGCS’s global business,” Mueller said.

Scaldaferri departs

Scaldaferri joined Allianz Risk Transfer in 1999, and was named CEO of Allianz’s ART Group 10 years later. Serving as an AGCS SE board member since 2012, he took on the North America chief regions & markets officer role in 2016. AGCS credited him with steering the integration of Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company into the business and with overseeing a “successful turnaround” of the North American business.

“I want to thank Bill for his strong contribution to the success of our New AGCS transformation program which we introduced in 2020, as well as leading our North American region through many important phases from the Fireman’s Fund integration and portfolio remediation to the exceptionally difficult days of the pandemic,” Mueller said.

“Prior to that, he played a leading role in establishing Allianz Risk Transfer as the market leader it is today in the alternative risk transfer segment.”

Other recent AGCS appointments have included Gabrielle Durisch, global head of ESG & sustainability solutions set to join the business in April. Durisch is expected to join the insurer with the establishment of its new in-house ESG team, with Ralf Heintges named AGCS global head of ESG & sustainability governance, effective last September. AGCS head of ESG operations Katja Oristanio took on her role in July 2022.
