Specialist insurance and reinsurance broker BMS has announced the appointment of three specialist energy practitioners to its energy lines team.
The company has appointed Alex Collier and Josh Saggers as directors and Andrew Vertigan as a senior account handler. The appointments will take effect in May.
The appointments commence an expansion of BMS specialties in North America, working with BMS US marine specialists and completing the circle of service across energy and marine, the company said. Collier, Saggers and Vertigan will be based in London and will report to James Chicken, managing director of energy lines at BMS.
Collier has 15 years of energy experience, with a focus on physical damage and liability insurance for upstream energy clients. He joins BMS from Price Forbes & Partners, where he has served as executive director for the energy division since 2019.
Vertigan joins the company with 35 years of experience in the energy sector. During his career, he has specialized in the independent wholesale specialty space covering downstream energy, renewables, power and marine. He has focused on upstream energy for the past 18 years. Vertigan joins BMS from Miller Insurance Services, where he most recently served as an energy account handler. Prior to that, he held leadership positions at Marsh & McLennan Companies and Sedgwick Offshore Resources.
Saggers has more than 15 years of experience in broking and advisory. He joins BMS from Price Forbes & Partners, where he most recently served as a director. He began his insurance career in 2008 at RK Harrison’s energy division.

“I’m very pleased to welcome Andrew, Alex and Josh to BMS,” Chicken said. “The arrival of the three greatly strengthens the energy team by adding upstream into our range of core specialisms. Based on their successful personal trading relationships, I’ve no doubt that the team will provide a depth of sector expertise for our core retail clients. We are hugely excited to bring strength, depth, expertise and exceptional relationships to this major international market segment.”
“BMS takes great pride in our culture of attracting and retaining some of the most talented individuals in the industry,” said Ian Gormley, UK CEO of BMS. “We are thrilled to welcome the extended energy lines team to BMS. Their wealth of knowledge and experience will undoubtedly add immense value to our clients.”
Collier, Vertigan and Saggers are the latest additions to BMS. Last month, the company bolstered its cargo team with the hires of Andrew Hutchings and Louise Rothschild.
